ÖtillÖ Utö 2020 – Team Lost versionen

  • september 28, 2020september 28, 2020

  • november 27, 2019december 2, 2019
  • av Team Lost

What a race we got to experience. This was our first World Series race! We have done ÖtillÖ sprints before that you can read about here – Hvar , Utö , Engadin. We did this race powered by Mr Green.

If you want to read about our whole weekend in Malta we have a longer post about it HERE.

Race video
We got to feel the power of the nature

Saturday
The forecast was storm and rain and the sun was shining. We looked at the sprint race, attended the Clean the ocean event, picked up our race kit and got to know all about the race at the race briefing. It looked like the stormy weather was coming for our race day and they changed the course a little bit. We were happy for that afterwards.

  • ÖtillÖ Malta
The event area and finish line on our race
The course along the island with a total of 39,6 km with 13 swims of which the longest was 1 600 metres. A total of 8 700 metres of swimming.

Fanny felt extra nervous because she felt a little bit sick and didn’t know if she would be able to do the race.

Sunday – Race day
We had an early breakfast at our hotel room and at the same time it was rain and thunder outside. Fanny felt better and we decided to do the race! We had a pick up that took us to the race bus. The bus took all participants from the finish line at hotel Golden Sands Beach to the start in Valletta.

Ready for start

The start was in the middle in the city Valletta and we started with 1300 meters of running.

Start line

We started out pretty slow in the start due to the slippery stones and came far behind on the first swim. It was a great wake up call to realised how many teams who were in this race. Over 200 teams and 400 people. It was crazy in the water. So many people everywhere and it was a real struggle. With that in mind we should have pushed harder from the beginning so we’d swim with those with a little more speed than the ones we fought with. We came up whole and kept on running. The other swim was much better and the field had split up a lot.

After that it was a really nice course with quite short swims and running a long the coast of the town. We met a running race and everyone was cheering on each other in the rain. We came to some longer swims and it was a little bit hard to see the end point. The waves and the rain maked it harder. We switched who was in the front when we were swimming. We both felt a little bit more tired than we use to do.

Crystal-clear water and around 19 degrees warm

We think everyone who did the race will remember mudland. Holy shit. Tough mudder, Tjurruset etc, you have nothing to compare with this. It was a real struggle but we manage through without falling. Some long swims later and we had done like 2/3 of the race we started to reach the top of the island and the stormy side. Yes, it was like Koster Swimrun 2018 all over again, but worse. It was sometime a little bit hard to see the markings because the wind took them down but overall it was an amazing job from ÖTILLÖ marking and remarking the course. We ran about 100 meters wrong at one point but we had our map in our watches so we just checked the watch and realised that we need to run back to find the right path.

Amazing trails

The last bit of the race was the most interesting bit. Amazing trails on the hills of Malta. It was a real adventure. We both felt much stronger uphill and could run slowly uphill when we normally needed to walk. We came to the third last swim and that was the one they had taken away. When we saw how the water looked like we were really happy that we were running and not swimming at that place. The waves were big.

Popeye Villiage

We ran a bit more before we reached a village, Popeye Village build for a film. We had some energy and got some motivation words from Rikard at Mr Green before we should do a short little swim across the bay. It was like 100 meters. The waves were sick and hard currents under the surface. Patrik swam first on this one and when we had around 10 meters left we couldn’t swim to the ladder, we stood still. Fanny came up with the idea to swim to the side and climb the rocks up. A dangerous stunt but we managed it. We came up and we both were really tired.  Just some more teams got to do this swim before they closed it and the other teams had to run around instead.

We just had the last run left before we should reach the last swim. They had done the last swim shorter and we thought it should be a short and nice one. We hade it all wrong. When we saw the entry of the last swim we were like, omg are we gonna swim in that?! Yes we are… it was really hard wind and the waves were like 1,5-2m high. A man stood there and screaming. “You have to swim out first then to the beach or else you’re going to hit the cliffs. Omg?! Ok let’s go!

Super big waves

We started to swim out and the waves were big and when we started to change direction to the beach big wave started to hit us hard. We went down under the water and Patrik loosed his googles. Fanny got some panic and just wanted to be still and wait for the waves to leave. It didn’t go fast but we made it to the beach and to the finish line.

  • We did it

This race was and adventure of its own. We have never experienced anything like this before. Thank you MrGreen, Visit Malta and ÖtillÖ for an amazing race.

Race report Koster Swimrun 2019

  • september 23, 2019september 23, 2019
  • av Team Lost

Koster Swimrun last year was our first swimrun race and it was so cool to be back with more experience. ( You find the race report from last year here)

Friday
We started to drive from Jönköping to Strömstad. A boat waited for us to take us to the Koster Islands. Petter and Michaela welcomed us and we got a nice room with view over the sea. We stayed at Hotel Ekenäs

During the race briefing we got to know everything about the course and also that it was around 14 degrees in the water. All competitors had dinner together before it was time for the last race preparations.

Ready!

Saturday – race day
07.00 started with breakfast buffet at the hotel and had some chill time before start. The race started with a jump from a ferry and a short swim.

The following run was one of the longer runs and up and over the island. It was easy to follow the marks. The next swim was really hard last year. It was big waves and we had a lot of struggle. It was so much easier this year and the swim went well.

It was short swims and short runs over many small islands and the time went so fast. The weather was amazing and we really had a great day out.

One part of the race is really tricky, it’s a run with many small rocks. This part was double long last year because of the storm. Fanny was crying and had some trouble with it. Our speed this year over this part was still super slow but a little bit faster than last year and without tears.

We came to the last energy stations and took some Nocco and Barebells to prepare us for the last swim that was 1,3 k. It was a nice last swim before we came up for the last short run to finish line at Ekenäs hotel .

We ended up at 3rd place in the mixed class. The course was around 30 k in total with 5 k swim.

delicious food after the race

The day ended with a dinner together and party.

Koster swimrun is more than a race. It’s amazing weekend. This is a race we really recommend doing.

Thanks to NOCCO for all the support.

Rockman Swimrun 2019 race report

  • augusti 6, 2019augusti 9, 2019
  • av Team Lost

We went up super early to have some oatmeal before we went down to the harbour. There was a ferry in the harbour taking us to the start at Fantahåla in Lysefjorden.

Before the start

It was an amazing sunrise and we started with a jump from the ferry. The first swim was around 950 meters and the the fun had started. Uphill, uphill, uphill, uphill. Hard to run in the beginning. After the harder uphill we could start to run.

Race map

It was small and tricky trails and the coming swims was short and fast. After a while we came to a 4400m run up to Preikestolen. This was super cool and when we came up it was like running on clouds. Fanny had some problems with breathing but otherwise everything felt ok. We had a steady pace, no stress.

When we were running down we met a lot of the other teams. It was many teams, around 50. We also met some followers that send us pictures after.

The hard part starts when it goes steep down and there’s a lot of rocks. Teams where passing us and Fanny was crying because she was a little scared downhill. We took it easy and were happy when it was time for swimming again. We came to a 1600m swim that felt awesome.

After the swim we came to a seaside sprint. This is not a sprint. It’s really tricky trails. We were taking it easy and we met a team that thinked we were racing about the 7 th place. Oh nooo… we answered. We are just happy to do this race and we’re not focusing on any place.  We stayed and took some energy together with the other team and then we ran uphill again. It was asfalt and we ran- walked- ran.  We were wondering if we were on the right way but a quick look at the watch and we could relax. We had the map in our watches so we colud see that we were on the right track. A really good thing.

On the longest road uphill ever we met some girls that was sharing on their men and had water and candy for us. Thanks! Now it was just some kilometres to next swimming when we should cross the big fjord to Flørli and take the famous 4444 steps up the mountain.

The swim was 1700 meters over, the water was pretty warm and it felt easy. When we started to walk up the steps, we should have taken more water with us because it was hot. We walked, walked and walked to get to the top. It took us almost one hour. When we reached the top it was time to swim. Amazing swim and the water tasted so good.  We had some cool running on the top and amazing swims before it was time to run the 5k downhill. First there was an easy road and then small trials and in the end super tricky trails. The last 1k felt like it took forever.

We made it! Super happy and our bodies felt so much better than we thought. 8 hours and 57 min. 7th place in total and second place in mixed teams.

2nd place

ÖtillÖ Engadin 2019, Race Report

  • juli 9, 2019juli 10, 2019
  • av Team Lost

Engadin, Switzerland is a dream location for a swimrun. If you want to know how we traveled there and where we stayed check HERE.

Saturday – Raceday!

The plan was to do the longer ÖtillÖ race but since Fanny had a struggle with her foot we decided to change to the sprint.

We hade breakfast and went down to the ÖtillÖ area and picked up our start bag with bibs and caps. Our legs were a little tired from yesterday in the mountains.

The course included 4 swims and 5 runs and the total length was 15.3 k. We started with a  short warm up, a little bit of running and swimming. The water temperature was cold but not too cold. We are used to colder water home in Sweden.

A last kiss before the start
3-2-1 gooo

We started fast and was one of the first team down in the water. Patrik first and Fanny behind. Patrik swam like a king and we were first of all teams up from the first swim. Crazy feeling.

First up after the first swim

A 2 k run until next swim and the thin air reminded us that it can be hard breathing.  We slowed down a bit and there were all ready teams and solo racers in the water for the next swim.  This time was Fanny first and Patrik behind. We got closer and closer to the other racers when we were swimming and came up side by side with the leaders.

Happy and a little groggy after the swim and we know what’s coming, Uphill! We walked and all the others also walked uphill. There’s not so much uphill on the sprint if you compere with the long course but uphill always feels hard. This was a 5 k run until we came to next swim. A mixed team had passed us and we just tried to do our best and have fun.

Next swim went well and then we had a short run until the last swim. It was current and harder. It felt so much longer than the other swims (it wasn’t)

Up from the swim and ready for the last run, we ran faster than some solo racers and passed a mens team.

Seeing the finish line with a lot of kite surfers down in the water was super cool!

We finished happy and proud. 2nd place in mixed team and over all. Engadin Swimrun Sprint

Check out the short video from our race.

Thanks ÖtillÖ for a fantastic race and thanks Nocco for the support. We hope to be back next year for the longer course.

Rockman Swimrun Pyrenees – Race report

  • oktober 15, 2018maj 31, 2019
  • av Team Lost

We have been looking forward to this race for moths. It looked so cool and it was even more cool doing it.

We where flying to Barcelona and then driving up to Pyrenees and then we checked in at Ligüerre Resort. It’s a magical place and a famous place for weddings.

The day before the race we were out with a photographer and to film a bit of a race video. We saw some amazing parts of the course.

In the evening there was race briefing and dinner and it felt nice to have tested all the stuff earlier in the day so we had everything under control before the race day.

Race day! The start was moved to 9am, we started jogging together from the hotel area before the race started down a steep slope and towards the first swimming.

Down by the water we had a fun surprise, it was strong currents and we went around like in a washing machine before we could swim to the first beach flags. Fortunately, it was in the right direction and we got a good flow right away. Up from the water and into the forest as the first team.

We were running/walking/splashing in uphill in a river for about 40 minutes. It felt more like an adventure than a race. A Norwegian team ran past us after a while but then we didn’t see any other teams. At the top of the river at a waterfall we turned left and up to reach the first check point. It also turned out that the men’s team who ran past us got lost so we were back in the lead.

After the first checkpoint it was a long downhill part and we were running in a comfortable pace. A new men’s team is about to pass us at the end of the hill and we ran together with them to the next swimming. At the swimming we were faster and retured to the hotel and the check point as the first team before it was time for loop nr 2.

Loop No. 2 began with a technical run over big rocks before we went up to a canyon. Besides the canyon we experienced the most amazing running paths and with a really steep cliff on the side. The run at the canyon ended with a tunnel before we got out on the other side and experienced even more beautiful views. This part was a real struggle for Patrik as he fighted to run up the hills.

Down to the next swimming and here was the swim to a church in the middle of the water in a big pond.

After two swimmings here, it continued up. A smaller gravel road led us towards one more church and here were all 3 teams in the lead relatively close to each other. It was hot and heavy and we were really thirsty. Right up at the church all 3 teams were gathered and we ran down together again. The Norwegian team who first ran past us at ran first down and we after. There were small winding paths leading us down to an asphalt road and down to the hotel where we were going to swim the last swimming. The second men’s team were running past us and we came to the last swim as third team. The water that had been really flowing a few hours earlier was now calmer and not at all as high. We saw the other teams go on the side of the water while we tried to swim in the middle. We managed to swim faster than one teams and towards the end of the swimming we toke more and more on the leading team. We get out of the water at the same time as one person in the other team. We started to run while the other the other team had to wait until both are out of the water. We didn’t say much, we just ran. Both of us think the same thing… just run. Don’t think. 50 meters before goal, Patrik takes up the camera and films the finish when we won the Rockman Pyrenees. So incredibly cool! We didn’t expect this at all.

Race report – 2XU Idre Fjällmaraton

  • augusti 27, 2018mars 14, 2020
  • av Team Lost

We did it! 28 k in the Swedish mountains. Our goal on this race was to have fun, record some content and share the race at our and 2XU Swedens insta stories.

We came up to Idre on the day before the race and stayed with the 2XU team. It was a long time since both of us ran this far so this race where more like training to upcoming races.
The weather was almost perfekt for running. Not to warm and not to cold. A little bit rain but not to much. The first 8 k was quite easy.  After the second energy stop we got to see the magic views. We played some music and had fun. Sometimes it was both sun and rain at the same time. It was beautiful.

The second part of the race was a little bit harder. Big hills and a lot of stones on the trail. It was as promised a tough race. We took it easy without any stress. We are so proud that we didn’t got lost and it was a super fun race.

Go visit our Facebook page if you wanna see the video from the race.
